Let’s Get Together

via casstastic

So for the past month or two, my really good friend and supreme advice giver, Chris aka C Dubs, has been up to his eyelids in work putting together a festival within Boston in conjunction with some of Boston’s best venues, producers, promoters, DJ’s, and generally, some of the best people around the East Coast. As one of the founding members of the Bassic night in the Bean, Chris has been dealing with one of Bostons first ever week long electronic music festivals to grace this side of the country. (and oh boy are you guys in for a treat!)

Okay so what exactly IS Together Festival about?
Together: The New England Electronic Music Festival is a multi-venue, multi-party, multi-panel super event uniting not simply genres of music, but entire scenes once thought to be disparate. The city of Boston provides a unique platform as well, with its enormous student population, numerous technology centers and differing types of venues.

Together Boston will reach thousands of personalities within the mixing generation. As The New England Electronic Music Festival we will touch on not just dance music, but the emerging technologies of electronic music production. By involving different groups—from the most senior avant-garde lovers to the youngest members of this new sound, this is the genesis of a new era of collaboration and innovation for the New England arts, technology and music communities.”

If you have a love of dance music, or are even just a tad interested in the emerging new sounds that have been so heavily changing the music industry, you wont want to miss the events of this week long party. So dust your dancing shoes off and brace yourself…

Selectism “Thanks for 2009″ Drink Coasters

Artist Mike Dacey from Repeat Press recently got the opportunity to design and handcraft drink coaster for selectism.com & highsnob.com, as a way for them to say thanks to their sponsors/clients. Good friend Steve Schinnerer got it all on film to give you an inside look at the production.

Fashematics Comic Book, Featuring Karl Lagerfeld

The creator of the comic x fashion zine “Fashematics” took inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld for the most recent issue. The issue includes looks from spring 2010- illustrationing and reinterpreting the stars of the catwalk as part of either a horde of zombies or an army of robots, hell-bent on taking planet Earth for themselves.

The book can be purchased here for $20 plus international shipping.

Bicycle Film Fest- Boston 09

This weekend (Friday November 20th and Saturday November 21st) BFF is coming to Boston for an epic two day event. Come out Friday night at 7pm to the Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge for Goldsprint challenges (and to support our boys at Open, natch), then follow up with us on Saturday for movies and short films inspired by the love and thrill of bikes at the Brattle Theatre in Harvard Sq. For a complete list of showings, check out the main page here.
Hit up the afterparty at Flat Top Johnny’s @10pm to end the festival on the right note with all the right people.

What is BFF you ask?

“In 2001, Brendt Barbur, Founder and Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. Instead of being deterred by this experience, it inspired him to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and film. Now in its ninth year the festival is held in 39 cities worldwide. 250,000 people are expected to attend this year.

The Bicycle Film Festival celebrates the bicycle in all forms and styles. If you can name it – Tall Bike Jousting, Track Bikes, BMX, Alleycats, Critical Mass, Bike Polo, Road Cycling, Mountain Biking Recumbents – we’ve probably either ridden or screened it. What better way to celebrate these lifestyles than through art, film, music and performance?
We bring together all aspects of bicycling to advocate its ability to transport us in various ways. Ultimately the BFF is about having a good time. We have been fortunate enough to include the work of established artists such as Jorgen Leth, Mike Mills, Jonas Mekas, Blonde Redhead, Swoon and Michel Gondry; as well as talented newcomers as part of our programming.”

OATH @ Open

It’s Saturday night and you’re what, bar hopping? Watching a movie? Staying in by yourself and eating Chinese take-out?
Why not come on out to OPEN instead. It’ll be much more entertaining than watching the guy next to you get totally wasted and make an ass of himself (really, we promise).

For this upcoming show, Open has teamed up with Clark Filio for his new works on figurative paintings and drawings.
The opening reception starts at 7pm and we’ll continue to mingle until the end of the night (ie. 12am)

Chorus Gallery is located at
285 Washington Street
Somerville MA 02143

If you cant make the opening reception, fear not- the artists’ works will be up until December 11th
